Blades of Steel

Year: 1988

Publisher: Konami
Players: 1 or 2

Konami's attempt at making their own Ice Hockey NES game went very well. Blades of Steel is usually considered the best hockey game on the system, if not one of the best hockey games ever. Its main competitor for the same system happens to be Nintendo's original game, Ice Hockey.

Blades of Steel has quite a bit of its own special features. With phrases like "Face off," "Fight," and "Penalty Shot," it has one of the widest variety of digital voice sounds available on the NES, even though many of them sound muffled and unclear. Blades of Steel also features short cartoon/mini-game intermissions after each second round and the chance to have neat fights between players of seperate teams, often considered one of BoS's strongest features.
