Double Dragon
By Powell Angel Dude

If you have read any of my other reviews, you will already know that I don't like too many arcade ports. Double Dragon is not an exception. I really enjoyed this game in the arcades, but when it was brought to the NES, too many things were changed that made this game sub-par.

As in most arcade games, the story is paper thin. You girlfriend is kidnapped and it is up to you to save her. But that's not the problem with this game, let me tell you what is.

First, and most important, In the arcade game, you could play two player simultaneous. But in the NES version. You play two players one at a time. This is horrible. The name of the game is DOUBLE Dragon for god's sake! How can you only have one guy at a time fight. And as if this problem weren't enough, it gets worse from there.

Since you can't play two players at time, there a lot of enemies to fight. Especially at times when you have to fight two Adobos at once. I couldn't help but think since you play alone they could have removed some of the enemies to accompany the extra player flaw.

Well, I've trashed it enough. Let me say some good things about this game. The music is OK, and the control is tight. But now that I think about it, the graphics aren't that good. There are a lot of times when the graphics appear choppy.

Well, I did leave one thing out. I forgot about game type B. Type B is a versus mode. The charcters are very well detailed and the backgrounds look fantastic. Too bad they couldn't have done this throughout the entire game.

So in conclusion, I've played many arcade games. Some good, some bad. This one is great in the arcades, but Tradewest did not do a good job bringing to the NES.

My Score: 4/10
