By Powell Angel Dude
The Story:
Maniac Mansion is the story of a group of teenagers who go to save their friend, Sandy, from the evil Dr. Fred. Dr. Fred plans on turning Sandy into a zombie. And it is up to you, Dave, and two friends to go into the mansion and save Sandy.
OK, now that that's outta the way...:
Let me start by saying I really enjoy this game. It is one of my all time NES favorites. I enjoy a game where you have to think instead of just walking aimlessly to the right of the screen. This game is full of puzzles for you to solve that it will take only the keenest eye and quickest wit to catch on and beat this game. But that is not the only reason I like this game. The cast of charcters is the best feature. You are stuck with the default charcter, Dave. But you get to pick two friends to go with you. There is Razor, who is an aspiring musician. Bernard, The geek. Syd, who is almost the same person as Razor. Wendy, the aspiring Journalist. Jeff, the Surfer dude. And Mike, the photographer. And the great thing about this cast of characters is that they all have their own way of beating the game. All with different outcomes.
Technical Stuff:
Sound is stellar. The music is great. I love how all the different characters have their own music. And the sound goes with each action of the game. The controls are good. In this game you use a rare "point and click" method. Basically, you move the pointer on the screen where you want to walk to. The pointer is also useful to play the entire game. A list of commands is at the bottom of the screen, (take, open, push, etc.) and you click on the word, then the object you wish to perform the action upon. I know it sounds complicated. But trust me, it's really easy.
Overall:
I love this game. It is one of my all time favorites. The mansion is huge and big to explore. And this game has huge replayability. I love it, and once you play it, you will too.
My Score: 9/10
