Zelda II
By Powell Angel Dude
When I first started playing Zelda 2, I was a bit skeptical the moment the game started. There was a side scrolling screen and I knew it was a clear departure from it's predecessor. "How could Nintendo do this to me?" I thought. As I kept going I noticed a magic meter and an experience level pointer on top. I kept thinking that I wouldn't like this game. But as I kept playing, I realized that I loved this game, maybe even more than the first installment of the series. And in this review, I will tell you why.
In Zelda 2 there are 2 different kinds of screens. Top-Down screens are the screens we know and love form the original Zelda. In these screens, you wlak along a path, but if you step off the path (which is usually necessary) you are chased by little goblin Icons. If they catch you, you are taken into a side scrolling screen where you fight a few monsters and goblins. Side scrolling screens are also used in all of the temples. Both screens are beautifully drawn. And the graphics are superb. The detail on every character in the game is great. Nintendo did a great job graphic wise, as they usually do.
Some of the new additions to this game are the magic meter and experience point counter. As you go along the game, you will meet people thast will teach you magic spells. Each spell costs you some magic and your magic meter drains. You can get Items that will make your magic meter longer so you can use more spells until it is empty. Some of the spells include: Shield spell, Jump spell, Life spell, Fairy spell, Fire spell, Reflect spell, Spell spell, and Thunder spell. All these spells have different uses, but that is for you to find out. And another new feature is the use of experience points. As you kill enemies, you get points. If you get a certain number of points you can upgrade your Life, Magic, and Attack. Upgrading your Life makes you able to take less damage on a hit. Magic lets your spells use less magic. And Attack makes your attack stronger. Even though these are a clear departure from the original, this game rocks.
Another feature i left out is the towns. As you go on your quest, you go to towns where you can talk to people. Some people fill up life and magic. Some people teach you new spells. Some people will give you hints about the game. And some people even turn into bats! All in all, I really like the town feature, it's a lot better than the lonely feeling of the first game.
The technical stuff in this game is great. Like I said before. The graphics are awesome. The sound is great. The music is clear and perfect. And the control could not be better. It is tight and well responsive. As in all Nintendo games, everything technical is above and beyond the call of duty.
So in conclusion. I really, really like this game. Maybe even more than the first. With all the new features, this game really makes its mark on the Zelda series. If you don't have this game I recomend you buy it, you have no idea what you're missing out on.
My Score: 10/10
